Hi everyone, finally found this site after searching for other cockapoo owners. Dylan is 5 months old now - we've had him since 8 weeks and adore him. Our first cockapoo and what an amazing breed. So easy to train and he was able to walk off a lead within a week and comes back perfectly, even walks to heel whenever commanded. (Totally unlike my last dog which used to disappear). Dylan is very very vocal though and I'd be interested to know if they all are. He barks whenever he plays or gets excited - almost a crow or a howl - very distinctive sound and I can't work out which parent that comes from. Anyone else have that?? Unfortunately Dylan was attacked by a Staff a few weeks back - took 3 of us to get the jaws open to get him out. Luckily he was not badly injured - just bruised and hair loss on his face, but it has traumatised him and we're now working to get him resocialised as he's really nervous and panicky around other dogs now. I try to walk him with others whenever I can as he settles down after the initial panic and he seems to be gradually improving.

hey welcome. Dylan looks lovely. what colour is he (pic is very small) he looks black with some tan?

i klnow of a couple of cockapoos in and around essex. shame about the insident with the staffi, was the owner their what happend to the dog.

what you are doing is the best thing possible, getting him back out there as soon as posible. i would even look around for training class or dog walking groups. anything the get him in and around a veriety of other dogs.

Thanks for your welcome. I got Dylan from a breeder in Essex and I do come across quite a few cockapoos here. He is chocolate with highlights! The breeder called him chocolate and tan but its more of a cream or apricot colour unless it changes later. We are starting to see some progress with the socialisation - we join in with other dogs whenever we meet friendly packs while we're out and he is much less nervous now. But obviously I'm also pretty wary until I know they are friendly. It's not just the dogs that get traumatised.
The Staff owner had him on a lead - we just walked past and he lunged and grabbed Dylan before anyone realised what was happening. There were three of us on the ground trying to get the Staff to open his jaws to release Dylan - it took an age, and was quite horrific and we really thought that he would be dead by the time we got him out. Unbelievable he suffered few injuries - just some hair loss and sever bruising to his face and neck but we rushed him to the animal hospital to be checked over.
Anyway, we are moving forward now. I have taken him to some training classes, but he is so vocal and even before the attack was difficult around other dogs, so it is very hard work! I will look around for some different classes to find one that suits us better.
How about the strange barking? Have you come across that? He almost sounds like a hound baying???

Hey, welcome! Dylan's a cutie! So sorry to hear what happened! :( But glad to hear that you are both being brave and moving forward! :) As for the barking, I'm not sure.. When we first brought Cocoa home, I think it was a few weeks before we actually heard him bark lol Now it seems he only barks when he hears another dog bark on tv or when he's trying to tell you something :rolleyes:

You are lucky! I think that Dylan is the noisiest dog on earth. He just seems to howl for the sheer joy of it! But I am learning to speak Cockapoosh - he has a different bark for every occasion, from a little yip that means he would like you to attend to something like picking up a toy he can't reach to his howl that is just when he is so happy he can't express himself any other way!

Oh Dexter barks a lot. When he is playing and when he sees anything. He also howls when he is playing with his squeaky toys. My friend has a cockapoo and he is noisy as well. Dylan is very adorable and so sad to hear that he was attacked. I don' know what I would have done!

Welcome to the site. I love Dylan's name. :) That attack must've been scary though! :eek: I'm glad to hear Dylan is alright.
