Hi Dog Lovers,
I wanted to highlight a charity that is based in Bulgaria. Its run by a family who moved to Bulgaria from the UK and who were not intending to rescue dogs but couldnt turn a blind eye to the appauling state the dogs from the street were in. Many Bulgarian people kick dogs and throw stones at them when a dog approaches them, DOGS ARE LEFT HAVING PUPPIES IN THE STREET, STARVING THE LIST GOES ON. The family are fundrasing to build a large new shelter. They currently have 120 plus dogs and puppies and cats!!!!! They have an adoption programme which is fantastic where dogs are being transported to Belgium, Germany and Netherlands and the UK to their new forever homes. I spoke to a lady from the UK who works tirelessly for the charity and arranges home checks, fundraising and arranges adoption trips, she travels to the shelter in Bugaria. The trouble she is having in the UK is that no one knows about them so this is why i am writing this. I have applied to adopt a dog called Roly, you can see him top of page under ready to adopt. PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT THE WEBSITE AND HELP IN ANY WAY YOU CAN, IT HAS MOVED ME AND I HOPE I CAN SPREAD THEIR GOOD WORK AND MAKE PEOPLE MORE AWARE OF THE WORK THEY ARE DOING IN THE UK. Thankyou Pam

Roly is a handsome boy, I hope you get him! I will put the link on my face book. Hoping they mange to raise the funds for the roof.:(
Hi - please do not take my response in the wrong way but you did ask why there is a lack of response so I thought I would reply as honestly as possible without being disrespectful.
This highlights a very sad issue although there are many dogs in the uk also who need re-homing etc. In essence the website you posted is asking for funds / sponsorship and I myself do not feel comfortable if the forum is being used to gain funds on such an emotive issue.
I believe the forum is for sharing good advice, breeder recommendations and generally for info and a bit of fun. Sorry if I sound harsh but this is just my opinion.
Good luck with your dog anyway.

Hi,
I kind of agree with above, I am already getting a second pup so couldn't give any of them a home & I am a student so can't really be giving money away atm to other causes, maybe in the future once I have a job, but not atm :/
I do hope it manages to raise the funds though because what happens to the dogs is really sad :( I just didn't reply because there is nothing that I can personally do for the matter. As cute as some of those dogs are!
I hope you get Roly & he has a great life though :)

Thanks for your opinion, have rehomed 5 dogs in my lifetime from the uk, so just doing my bit but from another country. Will just have to think of something else as this has really moved me. Sorry .
As I said please don't feel I am insulting you personally - i am sure you have the best of intentions through your obvious love of dogs. However, giving to any cause is a personal thing and we all see plenty of sad causes.

Terrible situation, :-( but i agree, i am very wary of any organisations oe fundraising over the internet, because it is almost impossible to confirm it as a genuine cause, of course i am not suggesting pammy for any moment that it isnt, but i personally would never donate to an unknown charity through an internet forum :( however i do commend you for bringing attention to the plight of these poor dogs, keep up the good work and i am sorry that i am unable to help :(

I think Pam was just hoping to highlight the cause, not actually asking for donations. So perhaps just sharing on your facebook or something will help Pam in raising awareness for something that is important to her. :)

Well said Karen, thats exactly it, if someone wants to donate then great but as u said i want to raise awareness.
Thankyou for your support, even just one person is one person more than yesterday xx
Hi Pam
I didn’t see this post until just now and found the website very interesting. I think you’re doing a brilliant thing by giving a dog a home – well done.
Seeing the conditions and way animals are treated in foreign countries can be hard…
I went to Rome this year and in the middle of the city is a cat sanctuary http://www.romancats.com/index_eng.php. My Mum and I visited and I was befriended by a blind cat that sucked my fingers and pawed to sit on my knee. It clung to me when we had to leave and I was pretty inconsolable for the rest of the day. We donated a fair sum of money – the volunteers were doing such a brilliant job of looking after so many cats.
We’ve also been to Kalkan in Turkey a few times. There is a charity there that looks after and neuters all the animals http://kapsa.co.uk/yourcat.html. Last year I found a cat that had lost half of its face in some kind of accident – it was horrific. Marcus and I tried to catch it but had no luck – we informed the charity and made a donation.
It’s easy to judge the way that other countries view and treat their animals but what we have to remember is that often the value of HUMAN life is lower and so it’s only to be expected that the value of what we consider to be domesticated pets will be lower as well. Acknowledging this doesn’t make the problem go away but does put it in perspective somewhat.
I don’t have a problem with charities asking for contributions – it’s the nature of fund-raising. I’m sure that most morally sound people who can make a difference in some way choose a charity that means something to them on a personal level. As far as animal lovers go I’m as dedicated as they come but if I had to choose between making a financial contribution to an animal charity abroad or a human-based charity like this one which is also based in Bulgaria http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk/sponsor-a-child/europe/bulgaria it would definitely be the latter.
I’m sorry that you have been upset by the lack of response on the forum – try not to take it personally.
Best of luck with your new family addition.

To be fair, i did say that i commended your good work in bringing attention to their plight pammy, so in fact that is more than one person is it not? I just said i didnt want to donate to an unknown cause, you have had many people view this thread so i certainly think you are achieving your objective :) as i said before well done to you, well done to them and keep up the hard work! :)

Its an english family who run the shelter, so i guess he has picked up a few words lol. He understands sit, lie down, paw and TEA!!
Very clever dog who picks things up very quickly.
He is a Dutch Drahtaar which yes is vey similar to the pointer, its the first pure bred the shelter has ever had, although thats not the reason i picked him, he is a Bulgarian street dog to me, who gets fed and walked, something he wouldnt have if he had stayed on the streets x
He looks a lovely dog and it's nice to hear he is settling in well with your other dogs.

Thanks for posting the update.
He has taken it really well, was desperate for attention and a bit stressed when he came, now have noticed not so much attention is needed and actually stays still when i walk into a room. I have to remember to treat him like a puppy as he has had no boundaries set, i.e ripped up my settee !! which i wasnt best pleased about but wasnt the best one lol. Have to keep things out the way and crate him when i go upstairs or out. He tried to wee once, told him off and hasnt tried again, brilliant considering he has lived in a pen for a year and god knows what before that. He is brill off the lead athough runs like mad but when i call him he comes back. Am going to try him in the local flyball team as is totally mad on balls.
Overall am glad i have him, wish i could have them all but need to think i have changes 1 dogs life, and when i win the lottery will change alot more !!!!!! british ones as well . Here is hoping x
