View Full Version : We lost the battle of the sofa.

For weeks I've been battling with Rio and trying to keep him off the sofa, after we decided as a family that he wouldn't be allowed up on the sofa. I found out yesterday that my 10 year old son has been secretly letting Rio join him on the sofa before school. I couldn't tell either of them off and so I've given in. However the battle of not going upstairs will not be lost!

That is so funny as we are having the same battles at the moment!
I was beginning to weaken on the sofa until Daisy started trying to hide her bones behind the cushions! Whilst trying to find one she scratched the leather! Oh dear, I think it will polish/rub out but the thought of finding a half chewed lamb rib whilst watching the X Factor does not fill me with joy! :D
I was also kind of letting Daisy upstairs, I wondered whether I should just let her come up and then at least my living room door would stay in one piece but the last time she came up she pooed on my daughters bedroom floor! :( Thank goodness for RAW feeding poos! :D
This morning she was trying so hard to get on the sofa and I was trying so hard to not give in. I have won...for now.....! :P :D

I personally love having them on the sofa for cuddles ... they don't bring food up there. We have a throw on the kitchen sofa which is useful. Having said that, now there are 2 dogs we could do with an extra sofa ... :)
Whether sofas are allowed or not is personal choice ... you just have to decide what's ok for you and be consistent.

That's why I am weakening, I like the cuddles and the floor is not as comfy! :)

Now what is funny is that before we got Luna I wanted her on the sofa and Dave didn't, until I persuaded him with the rug theory. Then we got Luna and she hasn't been on here once and I haven't actually wanted her on here as she so enjoys lying flat out on her back (and I can't cuddle and type at the same time lol!). So we both spend some time on the floor with her grooming and cuddling and then she chills out and we end up back on the sofa.
Not to say she will never be on the sofa, but I think while she's a puppy and into chewing she's better on the floor...

Lol, we had the same plan, no sofa, no going upstairs, no beds.
One by one they all disappeared. Millie was too cuddly not to have her on the sofa. At 5 months we took the crate away and let her sleep outside our bedroom door. At 6 months she was spayed and so poorly, we had morning cuddles on the bed.
I sometimes wonder who's training who :D

Before we got Izzy, Phoebe was not allowed on the sofa, but I liked the idea of the throws and we made the decision that it would be ok, on the throws, if a human was with them. Both dogs are currently asleep on the throw (well, almost!), on the sofa while I'm on the computer on the other side of the room...
Our sitting room is upstairs, and I haven't been in there since I got Izzy - we are using the kids snug downstairs as our sitting room until Izzy is a bit more reliable, so all the furniture is old and needs to be replaced anyway.

wispa has her own chair in the bay window so she can have a nose out side! lol but also love to sleep on the backs of the settees right behind our heads snoring down our ears!! :XD:

My family all compete to cuddle Dexter on the sofa in the evenings! I couldn't imagine him being restricted to the floor! He also has cuddles on everyone's bed in the morning as well- he is a thoroughly indulged little pooch!
We said no sofa's and no upstairs for Billy - I have backed down on the sofa one on an evening if he is cuddling and sleepy but the stairgate will remain firmly shut..... (or will it!?).

Like others ... started off no sofa's, no going upstairs and gave up on them both. I love them sitting with me... especially in winter keeping your feet warm ;) and they just follow me around the house . Off for a bath both dogs appear to be asleep but you can bet they are lying on the bathroon floor by the time I've got in x
