Hi All

I have just joined the site and on the very verge of getting my Little Cockerpoo Blossom......One small prob, I have been waiting months to find the right little girl and just like buses, 2 have come along at once!!

Do I chose the Cockerpoo that has been crossed with a toy poodle or the one crossed with a miniture poodle??

Is there much difference with there looks or health?

If anyone has a full grown Toy Cockerpoo, could I see a picture please?

Thankyou for reading.xxx

They appear to vary although prior to coming on here I assumed that toys would be smaller than minitures... but like JoJo says Helens Dylan is tall and I've also met a dog that I thought would be a toy looking about 12inch and it was a miniture. Look at pics from Poo fest there is a real range in sizes. Its sods law... maybe I would nt let it be the deciding factor ... good luck x

One Mum is an English show Cocker (quite petite) and Dad a toy poodle. The other Mum is an English show cocker (large and broad) and dad is a miniture poodle. I am awaiting a photo of the toy cockerpoo and will visit on 3rd of aug and the other I will be visiting next week and will sure to get some pics. There is a £120 difference in price between them but I dont want that to sway my decision.
Would you also recommend that a clear eye cert on the father is a must?
Thanks for replying.xx

Without a doubt for Optigen clear if one has proof and one has nt that would be where my choice was made x

Hi, The size seems to vary a lot, not just depending on the poodle type but mainly on the mum's size. The breeder should be able to advise you as to the expected size of the pups. Dylan is a toy/working cross, 14 inches at the shoulder. I'd say he was fairly large for a toy cross, but much smaller than some of the miniatures. I would comment that he is the most wonderful temperament but just a wee bit NOISY when he's excited! Here are some pics.

Visiting both is a very sensible idea - especially as we believe that you should like the Mum and you also get to look at the breeder and their set-up.
The price difference should be the last decisive factor - though see you already feel that x

Given that you are likely to have the dog for the next 13-15 years - making the right choice now is key !

Do you get a choice of the litter ?
Do you get to see how the pups are like when they are 6 weeks old ??? - as we feel that way you can get to see temperament and character. We feel that is a good age to make your selection x

Good Luck

Stephen x

I would love to help you with this ....

Rgarding size and build parents are a great indication when buying a F1 cockapoo, puppies can grow to be a little larger or a little smaller but parents overall size is a good start.

Regarding eye testing, this is something very close to my heart as I have 3 cockapoos and would love to have a litter one day, but I would only aim to produce a quality litter and I believe DNA eye testing is important. There are two types of eye tests available .. to save me typing it all out .. you can read my research here :

http://www.mydogslife.co.uk/category/cockapoos/health-care/

I really hope this helps :)

But basically one a parent with a clear/ normal Optigen DNA test for PRA, I would recommend ....

Jo Jo, a quick question, and not for any reason other than I just wondered! You seem to know a bit about cockerpoos, and also have a sense of humour!!!

Would it be possible to mate a cocker spaniel and a standard/giant poodle? I would think it would be a cockerpoo still, just a bit bigger!!! If it's possible, are there any about that you know of? In case this is read wrong by some people, we have NO intention of doing this, we just wondered........!!!!!

I am flatter you have asked me .... and to be totally honest I think the mating would be an interesting event ha ha ha .. a lovely little cocker with a big poodle ... lots of human help would be needed, biut nothing is impossible :)

I have never seen a cockapoo from a standard poodle although I have read in one of my many doggy books that any size poodle can be used. The largest poodle mix I have seen is JD's poodles which I think JD refers to as stocky or modern or something :S, but all in all its a miniature poodle mix.

As you already know Toy and Miniature poodles create nice size cockapoos ....

I hope this helps .. a little xx

Yes anything is possible but would mean that human intervention would be needed or Artificial insemination.

Though handling a standard size cockapoo would need some work and drive you to insanity at times - small size bonkers dog can just about cope with but a large one :D:D:D

I know you were just asking out of interest but both shockingly and sadly this is now happening in the crossbreed world with idiots out there who are breeding anything with anything without any consideration to the conformation of the two breeds used.

The other day I saw huskies crossed with a shitzu.

It's people like these who give give crossbreeding a bad name.

I have seen a large cockapoo - English cocker x standard poodle. Lives near to me and I have met the owner while walking and chatted. Exactly the same but bigger. :)

Thanks for all your comments and answering our questions, we quite often sit here thinking of Cockerpoo questions and if we want another!! We have Bayley who is 19 inches to his shoulders who was from JD's (Ziggy was his dad) who people say is big and Holly from a different breeder who is 15 inches, so thats how we got thinking about size. Will have to keep our eyes open on here for the person with a cockerpoo from a standard poodle.
