today i had my first proper grooming clients, (i count them as my first as they aren't family) thees are two Bichons who belong the the daughter of a woman who used to come to training with her Labradoodal molly.

Rocky is almost 2 years old i think and the groomer last time shaved his ears like schnauzer and rumped the rest of him.

poppy is just 6 months old and has a weird baldness on the left back leg and a little on her side (i have suggested she ask the vet to do a thyroid test as we know a dog who was going bald and it turned out to be his thyroid) the baldy leg was a nightmare to try and blend in.
i didn't touch Rocky's body other than bathing and drying him.

i was very happy with rocky, poppy i was disapointed with because i made a mistake on her ear which ment i had to take them shorter than i intended to. but she kinda matches rocky not lol. still confused about her leg as its not red or anything that would sugest it is iratated, and she doesnt bother about it.

but joan was happy and said she was taking them to her mums to show them off, lol she said she was going to tell her mum she cant call poppy a wee scruff anymore lol

lol it actualy toolk me about half the time to do the both of them as it does for me to do Amber. they were dropped off at about 9am (i said to thenk i thaught i would be finished by 3pm but yould give them a text) but after chatting to the owners and waiting from my brother to get out of the shower(lol he stayed in his room till they left) i probably didnt stat till 9:30am bathed and dried rocky then the same for poppy, then scissored rocky, i was finisheng popppy off at about 1:25pm when i got a text asking how i was getting on and if they were behaving. so i said for them i was just finishing off and they could come for them at 2pm if they wanted. finaly stopped fidleing about with poppy by about 1:50 and her owners showed up about 2:10pm.

Good job, it's always more difficult doing a dog for the first time. By the look of the finished result I'd be surprised if they didn't come back next time. Impressive. J xx

lol i said that to my mum, Rocky was easier because its almost like i have a template to work on form his last cut, where as with poppy it was like where do i start, and hear coat is still that puppy fuzz rather that the curly coat that holds its shape.

Julia had you ever seen a Bichon or any other dog with that kind of baldness. if seen older bichons with thinning fur on their backs but nothing like this. her coat is also thinner running from her leg along her side and on to her shoulder but it isn't as bad as on her leg.

they have already asked if they can come back, they will give me a text in August

I have seen it before but I don't actually know what the cause is. I'd be interested to know if you find out.

Well done Kendal. You've done a great job with these dogs - love the before and after pics. :)

Just wondered - do you notice any difference between light coloured coats (white/apricot) and dark (black/choc) re mats and how easy or difficult they are to look after?

Think I read somewhere that black doesn't mat as much and is easier but don't know if it is true - thought I'd ask as you have both black and apricot cockapoos. :)

for me personaly i find that Incas coat mats the least now, Gypsy is realy bad i just did her tonight(poor girl on her birthday aswell ) with the tropiclean Dmat it was fab i just did what julia did in her first vidio and just used it on her dry coat soaking her in it as a brushed and combed her, once i could ge the combe through her coat i just popped her in the bath and rinsed it off, didnt wash he just rinced the demat off, dride her coat a little then combed her out. im not going to blow drie her tonight to see if that helps.

Gypsy is very poodle in the coat but it doesnt hold a shape well where as Incas coat always looks luxurious even when all scruffy.

but yeah blond compaired to black defonetly mats worse, where as Echo and Delta being mostly white arent too bad, its strange.

Wow, Kendal, that's a really good job! When I saw the blow-dried pictures, I was amazed - you can really see how difficult it is when you see that!

I had a cat that had hair loss on his hind legs, which started a bit like that and ended up looking like he'd gone out without his trousers on - totally bald from the waist down (no jokes, please - I had them all!). The vet's couldn't find out what it was, but it was clear he was over-grooming for some reason, but his skin wasn't red at all. Anyway, it just stopped one day. It was after I'd moved house, so I do wonder if it was some allergy to something that wasn't around at my new house. I guess it's a bit easier with dogs to narrow something like that down.

Thanks Kendal, that's really interesting, I thought that was the case. Maisie, like Gypsy is very poodley and its a very difficult coat. Maybe I will think about black next time. ;)

PS. Happy birthday to Gypsy!
