I'm always looking to improve the site. But I can't always do that unless you guys help me out! So tell me, what features would you like to see added to the site? I'll do my best to work on them for you. http://talkbudgies.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

A smiley menu like the one on TB

so fue forums have spell cheackers on them now, but the forum administraters make a big deal about spelling.

We have a built-in spell checker. It's at the top of the post editor and its button looks like this:

I think it would be nice to have a deals sub-forum perhaps? So we could post coupons for dog food, toys, etc. I wanted to start a thread but I wasn't sure what area would be appropriate.

Hi Dave, love this site.
It would be good if there was a reference area for the photobukcet, pitapata, the chocolate chart etc and tick info from BADA key posts as they do get lost at times.

I know lots of people have pitapata signatures but I think it would be helpful if everyone's cockapoo information box had the age of their dog. Members often seem to start threads needing advice but don't say how old their dogs are.

Could we enter their date of births and it displays their age automatically so we don't have to keep changing it manually or is that too complicated?

I would really like to be able to look down the members list and see where people are from.

Good idea... and if the list could be sorted by most active members or last date they posted and could include the names of their dogs it would help me keep track of who's who. Although there are lots of members on the forum it seems that only a core group are active and it would help to see who is around at the moment.

I would quite like a 'like' button. I often support or like other members posts but don't feel I want to or have anything to contribute to the thread so a 'like' or 'thumbs up' button would be good.

That's a really good idea! Sometimes I write something just because I want to show that I have enjoyed a post or liked a photo, but I actually have nothing particular to say, so you lot must think I am just wittering on about nothing at all!

Well I know I just joined and I am a newbie here however I would love to suggest sub forums? Many forums I have been apart of have subforums and a lot of people enjoy that :)

For example:
I Love My Cockapoo
- Intros
- Cockapoo Chit Chat
- Pictures/Videos
- Health & Wellness
- Reviews on Cockapoo Products & Breeders, or anything related*
- Training Help
- Pages (I'll explain that below)

Cockapoo Breeding/Showing/Rescuing
- Breeders Corner
- Classifieds
- Upcoming Events (shows included)
- Cockapoo Rescues & Success Stories

General Chat
- Chit Chat
- Site Help
- Suggestions
- How TOs

----------------------
Sorry for all of that, just an idea of a general format :)

Now Pages,
I was thinking owners could set up an actual page for there dog in which they create a topic, and share their stories, accomplishments, photos, etc.

Would love to have a Sort by function for the picture gallery. for example categories like...

coat colour
age
by member name
by dog name
etc.

To do this I guess you would need to add fields for members to fill in as they upload their picture? Not sure how you would manage all the existing photos, some sort of edit? Just an idea.

Dave - it would be helpful maybe if the original post/thread starter could always be at the top of the page even on subsequent pages. Sometimes the thread is popular and extra pages are quickly added and if you want to add a comment but forget dogs name/sex/some info etc you have to go back to page 1 to see it.

I think most of us are just using the "thanks" button as the "like" button...I know I do :)

Dave

As Kelly said, the thanks button is essentially the same thing as a like button. :) Only difference is it isn't connected to Facebook. I've actually experienced slower loading times when the actual FB like button is installed on forums, so I prefer to stay away from it.

Hi Dave,

Could Threads have a number beside them to advise how "intense" they are - say a (1) to denote a fun light-hearted open thread - through (3) for a thread asking advise on real issues / concerns - through to say a (6) where there is an actual debate in hand ?

That way people can decide whether to bother with the post or not ? - as most on here (and rightly so) just what gentle; fun; open; informative and "Cockapoo'ish" chat !

.....if not a number - how about a * / ** / *** etc rating ? (not the row of gold stars...I like them x)

I have a question that kind of relates to the last post by JD. Is there a "mark read" button on here already? So you don't have to open up a thread you don't want to read, just to get it out of your list of new posts?

As far as I know, you can only mark individual forums or the entire message board as read, not single threads. I'll see if there's a way to do this though.

Hi Dave
I've thought of a feature that would be quite handy.

I know all threads come up under New Posts, is there a way to have above this a New Posts that I've personally contributed to - separate them out. Its nice to follow a thread, but difficult sometimes to see if I'm new to a thread or continuing.

I'm not even sure if I've made sense here! Hope so. :)

Dave, I'm finding on some pages that I have to scroll right and left to read people's posts. The bizarre thing is that it isn't always the case. Just looking at this thread for instance, Pages 2 and 3 are fine but pages 1 and 4 I have to scroll side to side. Is this an issue with the site or my computer? I don't ever have this problem with other forums. Hope I've explained it ok. I'm not much of a techy. :)

I think you can easily fix this. Scroll right to the bottom of the page and on the left hand side is a small drop down menu. You need to have yours set to Default Style (fluid). Hope this helps

Hi Dave

Would it be possible to have a new topic called recommendations, and in this have sub-topics for e.g. Food, training, grooming products, kennels, toys etc where we can put any useful links to products or/and services that we would like to recommend?

I am finding that as I discover what new things I would like to get for my dog, I can remember people recommending them on the site, but can't always find the link as things get recommended in different places and if you can't remember the name of it, the search tools can come up with all sorts of discussions which aren't relevant.

Does anyone else think this would be useful?

Thanks

Hi Dave
Not sure if this is possible. But the User Menu on the left hand side, can it roll down the page and you read further down a thread. Its just when you get to the bottom, you have to scroll all the way back up to go back to New Posts, if thats the one you're following.

Also, this may have been asked before, but the person who starts the thread, can their details somehow show up which you want to post a Quick Reply. Sometimes its to remember some of the details when replying.

Many thanks

Or, I think I've asked before, if the original thread start can appear at the top of every subsequent page so you don't have to go back to the first page to remember some info you want to include in your reply :)

Many thanksThe user menu idea, while it's a good one, isn't possible. :( I do like that idea though.

As for the second one, if you're posting in full reply mode (not quick), the post listing shows beneath the post reply box. As for quick reply, I'll see if it's possible to add the thread details (title, thread starter, etc.) to the quick reply box. That's another good idea, that should be doable. I've been very busy lately though, which is also why I'm just now responding to this thread. Once things slow down for me, I'll look into this.

Or, I think I've asked before, if the original thread start can appear at the top of every subsequent page so you don't have to go back to the first page to remember some info you want to include in your reply :)I'm pretty sure this is possible too. Will look into it soon.

I know it's been mentioned on the thread before, but I really like the idea of a 'like' button, I know you said that the 'thanks' button can be used as this but personally I never use it because everytime i'm about to I feel like it sounds stupid to say 'thanks' to something you 'like'.
I know another forum that has this & it's really good as people can agree with what others have said easily (y)

I found it. Go right to the bottom and in the greeny/brown bar at the very, very bottom, on the far right is Top. That takes you back up.

Would it be at all possible to have ‘notifications’, not by email but when you log in, to indicate any new posts on threads you’ve previously commented on. Similar to Facebook?

When I log on I search for posts I’ve previously posted on by doing a ‘Turi’ search but there have been a couple of occasions when a thread has slipped through unnoticed and I don’t want to a. miss out, b. appear rude for not responding!

I haven't read the entire thread, so I hope that this isn't mentioned already.

I am a member of another site that uses the same forum as this site. On that site, there is a section for members to create journals. I think that it would be neat for owners to have a place where they can create a doggy journal to chronicle what they and their 'poos are up to, and that way other people can follow and stay up to date with each other, without having to make a new thread every day. Not sure if this is something that can be added or not, but I think that it would be fun.
